There’s been much debate recently surrounding web design and how it is taught. Initially it seems like a pretty difficult task because the web moves so quickly. Loads of people go along with the argument that there needs to be some form of flexible curriculum that allows the tutors to update and modify based on best practices. Barcamp Blackpool 2

Having been to the first Barcamp Blackpool, I was really looking forward to this years event. I rushed (slightly last minute) into to a room of familiar faces either from last year, colleagues, or maybe just from Twitter. Either way I was keen to get stuck in and do a talk this year rather than just attending. Barcamp from a designers viewpoint is a bit strange, the event is definitely developer heavy and there were hushed mentions of “woah, you’re really a designer?!?” whenever 2 bumped into each other.

Rivers Cuomo on originality

So as part of my first public talk at Barcamp Blackpool (based on this recent post) about work/life balance (and David James :-) ) I mentioned a tweet I saw from Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo a few months back. It could almost be a talk in itself, so I’m going to expand on it a little here.

Rivers tweeted “If you have an original thought, don’t google it, because you’ll probably find that somebody else already came up with it.”
